Building faith and fellowship.

It’s a good thing that our faith gives us freedom from everything that can entangle us, including superstition. 13 King’s men set off on Friday 13th for West Sussex and…had a great time!

There have been previous men’s weekends away at King’s Church, but not for a decade or so. More recently a couple of us felt stirred to restore the idea, building on our monthly men’s breakfast meetings. It’s never easy to set time aside and we appreciate there’s a cost for those with families too, especially young children. None the less we got a good group together and set off to Lodge Hill outdoor centre, which is scenically situated near the South Downs.

The aim of the weekend was “building faith and fellowship”, with a mixture of physical, social and spiritual activities. Overall that included ten miles walked, two pubs visited, one (very long) game of “killer" darts,  several great meals and one archery session. The weather proved the icing on the cake, with the sun emerging from the morning mist on Saturday just in time for our main walk.

We were blessed to be joined on the Saturday by three others including Simon Elliot, lead elder at East Grinstead church. Simon led two thought-provoking and inspirational sessions looking at being men of God in our time, across our various spheres including family/relationships, church and work. That helped us share a beautiful time together on Sunday morning, with worship, listening to God and prayer for each other.

Please pray for our men’s group as we work out how to build on this and take it forward, no doubt including another weekend away at the right moment! It is also on our heart to find ways to support and bless King’s Church as we go forward together.
