Berlin Adventure

Not quite the name you’d expect for a day of prayer for a church plant, but it’s in Berlin and it’s going to be an adventure!

The programme for the day started at 9.30am, so Liz and I flew out on the Friday and once settled into our hotel room, we headed out to explore the area. Based near the centre of the city, it was just a short walk to Potsdamer Platz, described by the Visit Berlin website, Since reunification, what used to be a wasteland with the Berlin Wall running through it has become a completely new neighbourhood (with) restaurants, cinemas, theatres, shopping centres and modern architecture’.

The prayer day was structured into worship, information and prayer in the morning, lunch and prayer walk followed by an introduction to Germany and Berlin from the leader of a Newfrontiers church in the city, then more prayer and prophetic contributions.

But that doesn’t come close to describe what went on! Hearing Pete and Sarah Benton tell the story of how God led them; how thrilled they were that Pete and Sabina Cowell will be joining them; complementary prophetic words from different people; praying for the German government outside the Reichstag; freely walking across the line of the Berlin wall over and again; hearing Pete, Sarah, Pete and Sabina praying in German for Germany; sensing the battle going on in the heavenlys for this largely atheistic people; feeling the weight of responsibility that our prayers will change their circumstances; hoping that when I get home I won’t forget; thinking what I can do to help these 4 people see their vision fulfilled of a church established in Berlin, which impacts the city for the gospel. That’s what I call an adventure!

And then there was the kaffee und kuchen…
